187 - Regional sponsored migration scheme

This visa allows a regional employer to nominate you as a skilled foreign worker, enabling you to live and work in Australia permanently. You will be able to sponsor eligible family members to join you in Australia.

An employer may sponsor you under one of the following streams:

Direct Entry

*As of 15 th November 2019, this stream is closed to new applicants. You may still be eligible to apply through the Temporary Residence transition stream. Contact us for further information.

Temporary Residence Transition stream

To be eligible:

● you must have the relevant skills to perform tasks within the nominated occupation.

● you must hold relevant membership, licencing or registration for a professional body if required.

● you must be the holder of a subclass 457, Temporary Skill Shortage or related Bridging visa A, B or C.

● you must have been working for your nominating employer for a minimum of 3 years whilst holding a 457 or TSS visa.

● your Australian employers’ nomination must have been approved 6 months prior to your application.

● you must display competent English at a minimum.

● you must be under 45 years of age, unless exempt.

● you must meet the health and character requirements.

● you must not have any debts outstanding to the Australian Government

This visa will allow you to:

● Enrol in Medicare (Australia’s public health care scheme).

● ping eligible members of your family unit to Australia through sponsorship.

● gain Australian citizenship, if eligible.

● travel as desired, for 5 years.
