500 - Student Visa

This visa is a temporary visa for international students that come to Australia to study English, vocational courses or university studies. This visa may open a pathway for other visas depending on the course of graduation and applicants qualifications. It is not intended to to lead you to permanent residence, however subsequent options may be available to you, such as a Skilled Graduate Visa (485).

what you can do on this visa

All international students are required to study and fulfill their course requirements to avoid cancellation. Students are allowed to work in Australia up to 40 hours per fortnight whilst the course is in session. A fortnight means the period of 14 days commencing on a Monday. This visa is not intended to be used as a work visa. If you intend to maintain ongoing employment in Australia, you should consider applying for another visa.

Students will be required to maintain health insurance arrangements throughout their stay in Australia.

Requirements

Eligibility requirements include:

● Obligation to attend classes and have an attendance rating over 80%

● Be enrolled in a course of study

● Make welfare arrangements applicable only if under 18 years

● Meet English language requirements

● Have adequate health insurance

● Have enough money for your stay

● Be a genuine temporary entrant

● Meet health requirements

● Have no debts to the Australian Government
