Update on Subclass 408 Visa Temporary Activity Visa– Covid-19 Pandemic Event Stream

The Australian Government has made a recent announcement, that individuals on temporary visas will be able to apply for a Subclass 408 visa under the Covid-19 Pandemic Event Stream for a period of 6 to 12 months, with no charges applicable.

The decision to remove limitations for eligibility for the Covid-19 Pandemic Event Stream, is aimed at providing support to businesses and keeping current temporary residents in Australia.

According to the Department of Home Affairs “the new arrangements will only be available for Pandemic Event visa applications made on or after 21 February 2022 by:

  • Temporary visa holders who were in Australia prior to 21 February 2022; as well as 
  • Temporary visa holders who arrived in Australia after 21 February 2022 and have work rights or a job offer from a Commonwealth funded aged care service at time of application.”
