The Training Subclass (407) visa is a short stay visa which allows a person to take part in workplace based occupational training activities to improve skills for a job, area of tertiary study, field of expertise or in a professional development training program in Australia. For this visa, an applicant must be sponsored, be nominated (unless the sponsor is a Commonwealth Government agency) and be invited (if your sponsor is a Commonwealth Government agency).
To be eligible for the grant of a Subclass 407 visa, a primary applicant is required to be the subject of an approved nomination by the time of decision, unless the occupational training is to be provided by the Commonwealth. Nomination types include:
- Occupational training required for registration etc. – Nomination type 1. This stream is for trainees to undertake work-placed based training to obtain registration, membership or licensing in Australia or home country in order to work in the nominated occupation.
- Occupational training to enhance skills – Nomination type 2. This stream is for applicants with recent qualifications and/or experience to undertake structured workplace training program in an occupation specified on the relevant Skilled occupation list.
- Occupational training for capacity building overseas – Nomination type 3. This stream is for applicants who wish to participate in a professional development training program in Australia, students who are required to complete an internship as part of their qualification and for government supported workplace trainees.
