From 1st July 2023, there will be an extended post-study work rights under the Temporary Graduate Work Visa (Subclass 485) for eligible graduates of relevant degrees that have been released by the Government. The extension of this visa is mainly targeted at international students graduating with degrees that are linked to skill shortages in Australia.
This extension will give eligible international graduates an additional two years on their Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485).
For instance, from 1st July 2023, applicants are allowed to extend their 485 Visas, increasing their total stay in Australia for up to:
- Four years for Bachelor’s degree graduates
- Five years for Master’s degree graduates
- Six years for doctoral graduates

This extension now allows graduates to stay in Australia for up to 6 years and work full-time or part-time. As such, it is a great opportunity for international students who have finished their studies in Australia to gain work experience in the country and possibly apply for permanent residency under subclass 189 or 190.
