408 endorsed events (Covid-19 pandemic event) more known as the “Covid visa” was firstly designed for individuals who can assist with Australia’s economic recovery post COVID-19 Pandemic including ability to work for an Australian employer.
At the beginning, just individuals who worked in certain occupations were eligible for the 408 Covid visa. Later, this visa was extended to all visa applicants who were onshore and eligible to apply for a temporary visa in Australia.
Recently, the Department of Home Affairs has announced that they are doing the last arrangements to finalise the 408 Covid visa program in July. Official announcements still to come.
What does it represent?
The abolishment of the 408 Covid visa program will boost the seeking of individuals for other temporary visas, mainly:
- Student visas; and
- Temporary Activity Visas
Though the 408 Covid visa program will be abolished, it will not affect the applicants who are currently in the 408 Covid visa or the applications that are lodged before the abolishment of 408 Covid visa program.
If you have a visa expiring soon and are thinking to apply for a 408 Covid visa, we recommend starting the process as soon as possible.
