The Department of Home Affairs has announced that the Skills in Demand Visa will be introduced in November 2024. However, the full regulations are yet to be released.
Here is what we currently know about the visa:
- This visa will focus on skills that in high demand in Australia and the main idea is to attract foreign skilled professionals to fulfil the labour shortage gaps in the Australian market
- Applicants may need to undertake skills assessment to prove their previous fling experience and education matches the occupation that they are applying under.
- It is very likely that the Skills in Demand visa requires the applicant to have an sponsor who are required to demonstrate the genuine need for that role in their company
- The skills in demand visa will also bring a pathway forward permanent residency
- The skills in demand visa will also maintain requirements of age, minimum working experience and proficiency in English language
Although the legislation is still to be released in November, this is advisable that companies and employees seek Migration assistance for eligibility and assessment.
