Good news for skilled migrants eyeing Tasmania: the state has received an additional 450 skilled visa nomination places for the 2025–26 program year! While the Australian Government is yet to finalise the full annual quotas, this interim boost means more opportunities for skilled workers to secure state nomination.
How the Allocation Breaks Down
The extra 450 places are divided between two key visa pathways:
- 300 places for the Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa
- 150 places for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) visa
What This Means for Applicants
The 2025–26 Tasmanian Skilled Migration Program opened for new Registrations of Interest (ROIs) on 14 October 2025. Currently, only candidates who hold a Gold Pass are eligible to be invited for nomination.
With the new allocation, Tasmania will now run weekly invitation rounds, expanding invitations across Gold, Green, and Orange Pass categories. This is a great chance for skilled migrants who meet the program criteria to progress their applications more quickly.
Stay Updated
Migration Tasmania will post weekly updates on its website, including:
- How many ROIs have been invited to apply
- The lowest scores invited
- Available nomination places
- The total number of ROIs currently on hand
This transparency ensures applicants can track their progress and understand where they stand in the nomination process.
Looking Ahead
Tasmania’s final allocation for 2025–26 is expected soon. Skilled migrants considering a move to the state should keep a close eye on the Migration Tasmania website for the latest updates and make sure their ROI is ready to take advantage of any new invitations.
