Summary of Federal Budget 2022-2023 (Migration)

  • Net overseas migration has been revised for 2021-22 and has risen to 180,000 for 2022-23
    and 213,000 for 2023-24.
  • The Treasury number include the 2022-23 skilled migration cap of 160,000, which the
    government is expected to lift in coming years above 190,000
  • The budget documents show the government will maintain the 2022-23 migration program
    at 160,000. Skilled places will increase to 109,000 and account for 70 per cent of the total
    intake: The Skill stream will increase to 109,900, more than 30,000 places above 2021-22 planning
    levels.

    Occupation lists will be reviewed and updated in early 2022-23 to reflect changes in Australia’s
    labour market, based on advice from the National Skills Commission.

– Country caps for work and holiday visas will be raised by 30 per cent in 2022-23, increasing overall available places by about 11,000

– The government said it would also expand its humanitarian intake of Afghan nationals by an extra 16,500 places over the four years from 2022-23
