Requirements of an EOI
A number of visa subclasses require applicants to lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) and only the best candidates will receive an invitation to lodge a visa application. An invitation to apply for a visa is sent to those in eligible occupations who submit an EOI that meets or exceeds the points criteria. However, there is no guarantee that you will receive an invitation to apply for a visa, even if you meet the minimum points criteria of 65. To lodge an EOI, you must have completed your skills assessment and have evidence of English language ability.
Through an EOI, you can be invited to apply for certain visas, such as:
- Skilled Independent (subclass 189) visa
- Skilled Nomination (subclass 190) visa
- Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (Subclass 491) visa
Points for the EOI are awarded for factors such as:
- Age
- Work experience
- Educational qualifications
- Skills assessment
- English language proficiency
Updating EOI
You can still access your Expression of Interest after it has been submitted to:
- Update information and details, if your circumstances have changed; and/or
- Suspend the Expression of Interest.
It is essential that the information you provide in the EOI is accurate. It is the applicant’s responsibility to access the EOI and update it if circumstances change. An applicant is unable to update EOI once they receive an invitation to lodge a visa application.
Processing of EOI
You may wait up to 24 months for an invite as an EOI is valid for 24 months. You must hold another visa to remain In Australia while you are waiting for an invite. Once you receive an invitation, you will need to make your visa application within 60 days. If you are unable to apply within this time, your invitation lapses.
