Health occupations are in high demand in Australia, and most of these occupations are eligible for sponsored visas such as 482 and for skill nominated visas like 190 and 491 and skill independent visa 189.
These occupations require registration with their respective national board which regulate their profession and develop standards, codes, and guidelines for the practicing of the profession under what is called the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS).
Unless a person is registered, they will not be eligible to apply for a visa by nominating such occupations, with the exception of nurses, where they can apply for certain visas while being enrolled to become a registered nurse.
These occupations are:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioners
- Chinese medicine practitioners
- chiropractors
- dental practitioners
- medical radiation practitioners
- medical practitioners
- nurses
- midwives
- occupational therapists
- optometrists
- osteopaths
- paramedics
- pharmacists
- physiotherapists
- podiatrists
- psychologists.
The NRAS are administered by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
This is important because it ensures that all regulated health professions are registered against consistent, high-quality professional standards. It also makes it easier for health professionals to work across different states and territories of Australia.
AHPRA provides avenues to report complaints against unsafe practices by health practitioners.
Requirements to be registered with AHPRA:
- meeting English language skills with supporting evidence
- a criminal history check
- relevant qualifications with supporting evidence
- disclosing any health impairments
- certified copies of proof of identity
At Crystal Migration we can assist you with assessing your eligibility for a visa that requires registration with AHPRA and ensure a spotless application is submitted with the Department of Home Affairs.
