A very common question among individuals migrating to Australia permanently is, “Can I bring my pet with me?” Australia has a very specific policy that considers countries and species of animals.

Australia allows you to bring your pets with you, but they must be microchipped and vaccinated at least 210 days prior to arrival. This is the general rule. However, there is a list of specific countries and particular pets that may need to meet extra requirements to come to Australia.

Regarding dog breeds, some breeds are banned from entering Australia. They are:

  • Dogo Argentino
  • Fila Brasileiro
  • Japanese Tosa
  • Pit Bull Terrier
  • Presa Canario

Please note that if your country is on the list, you should check the legislation from Australia as well as the country of departure before arranging the pet relocation.

Despite the fact that in some countries, wild animals are considered pets, wild animals treated as pets are not allowed to enter Australia.
