Remote Work for Tasmanian Established Resident Pathway
The definition of remote work has been clarified for applicants under the Tasmanian Established Resident Pathway.
- Remote work applies when individuals living in Tasmania perform their duties from within the state for an employer located outside Tasmania — either elsewhere in Australia or overseas.
- Eligible roles include those where services, expertise, or digital outputs are delivered to the external employer, such as IT support, software development, design, or consulting.
Example: A software engineer based in Hobart who provides backend development services to Google in California is considered to be engaged in remote work.
However, individuals employed by companies outside Tasmania who deliver services to Tasmanian clients or markets are not classified as remote workers. Instead, they are regarded as employees of a Tasmanian business if their work is carried out at a Tasmanian worksite.
